Item Gender Variation and Job satisfaction(Uva Wellassa University of Sri Lanka, 2009) Rajapaksha, R.M.D.According to the past research findings, it is clear that there are contradictory ideas about the Gender Variation and Job Satisfaction. This Research study investigates relationship between gender variation and job satisfaction among bank employees in Colombo district of Sri Lanka. At the same time this research study, attempts to achieve the objectives of assessing whether there is a difference between Gender Variation and level of Job Satisfaction in related to the commercial banking labors in Sri Lanka. At the same time, this is accomplished by achieving the two sub objectives. They are: 1. identify the critical factors that influence to determine the Job satisfaction of both Male and Female employees 2. evaluate the trend and its importance of Gender variation and job satisfaction 3. compare the job satisfaction level of employees of government and private banks.Item Study of impact of Information Technology on the Effectiveness of customer Relationship management System in E-Business Perspective in Commercial Banks in Sri Lanka(Uva Wellassa University of Sri Lanka, 2010) Punchihewa, G.P.H.A.J.; Sutha, J.The primary purpose of this research was to identify the impact of information technology on the effectiveness of customer relationship management (CRM) systems in e-business perspective in commercial banks in Sri Lanka. This research paper developed and tested a model to examine the effect of information technology on the effectiveness of CRM systems in e-business perspective in commercial banks in Sri Lanka. Research presents an analytical discussion and empirical evidence of the relationship information technology investment and effectiveness of CRM systems. Theoretical views allow for the complex relationship between the Information System and effectiveness of CRM systems. The results are tested on 08 commercial banks in Sri Lanka; data are collected through primary and secondary sources. Empirical evidence showed that Information System have direct, strong positive relationship with effectiveness of CRM systems. Effectiveness of CRM systems is highly depending on information systems and on some external factors such as, political pressures, unqualified sponsorship of top management, lack of financial programs to promote CRM, organizational resistant to change and Global operationsItem The impact of Training and Development Practices for the Labour Productivity in the Apparel Sector with Special reference to Kalutara District(Uva Wellassa University of Sri Lanka, 2010) Jayakody, M.U.The study comprehensively evaluates the link between training and development and labour productivity. This particular study was done with regards training and development practices in apparel sector in the Kalutara District. Apparel industry was very essential for a developing country like Sri Lanka. And it takes an important place in its economy. In the competitive market, the greatest contribution from apparel sector was highly valued. Normally Sri Lanka has a competitive advantage on the cheap labour. And human resource was the most vital part in the apparel sector. So that the training and development was the most significant part of the apparel sector. The most of the companies find it difficult to get their predicted profit. This could be due to the less emphasis on training and development. Using sample of about 100 lower level employees(labours) representing apparel industry, measured impact of training and development practices for the labour productivity in the apparel sector .Following objectives were expected from this study.Main objective was identify the impact of training and development practices for labour productivity related to apparel sector in Kalutara District. Other objectives were analyze the content in select the training needs, find out the effects of training on the success of labour productivity, find out the major areas the most employees needed and make the recommendations to develop effective training program to increases labour productivity. In developing this study most of the data was obtained by primary and secondary sources.Item Empirical study of Employee Rewards system and Impact on Behavioral outcomes of Employees with Special Reference to Private Commercial Banks in Badulla Urban Area(Uva Wellassa University of Sri Lanka, 2010) Fasana, S.F.People play fundamental role in establishing and sustaining a firm's success. Human resource seems to be most dynamic factor of an organization. They need considerable attention from the organization's management. Reward system is a big tool for organization to motivate employees. In this context, the objective of this research is to identify the relationship exists between the reward system and behavioral outcomes of employees in terms of employee performance and job commitment. The population used for this study consisted of 6 banks from Badulla urban area and sample was 63 employees. Stratified random sampling method was used to select the sample. Questionnaires were used to collect primary data where as published articles and journals used as secondary data. Questionnaires consist of questions evaluating different fact such as personal information, existing reward system in banks, Intrinsic and extrinsic rewards, job performance and commitment to be ranked. Both descriptive and inferential statistical techniques were used. With respect to the inferential techniques, Pearson's product movement correlation, Regression analysis, Analysis of variance were used to indicate relationships and differences in the reward and behavioral outcome of employees. Analysis were done by using Minitab and SPSS statistical software packages Ultimate results conclude that there is a strong positive relationship between rewards and behavioral outcomes (+0.925). The above findings were in line with previous studies and supported with literature. With reference to the study results some valuable suggestions and remedies were provided to equip bank staff and enlighten senior management.Item Service quality Perception in the Hotel Industry (With Special Reference to Galle District)(Uva Wellassa University of Sri Lanka, 2010) Sheriff, A.M.; Ranasinghe, J.P.R.C.The service quality is an important factor for the success in the hotel industry. This research attempts to study customer's perceived service quality in the hotel industry. This paper aims to discover what customers think of the quality of service as that can be found in the hotel industry by looking into certain factors. The method employed to gather the research data was adopted from some of the instruments used in the SERVQUAL method as well as some of the other popular dimensions used in the hotel industry researches regarding measuring the perceived service quality. By using a descriptive analysis with a measurement scale of a 5 point Likert scale system the analysis were done. There was some methodical and dimensional issues regarding measuring the perceived service quality. Based on the research nine service quality dimensions were identified. Research findings indicated that 36 percent were repeated customers to the specific hotels. The research findings also indicated that generally the customers in the classified hotels were satisfied with the service quality that was provided by the hotel management.Item Customer Relationship Management Tools and Customer Satisfaction in the Hotel Industry (With Special Reference to Kandy District)(Uva Wellassa University of Sri Lanka, 2010) Shameer, M.N.A.; Ranasinghe, J.P.R.C.The one of the main objective of the Customer Relationship Management (CRM) is to delight the customers. Today most organizations think that expenses on CRM will erode the profitability and some CRM implementations can be failed. This study was carried out at the hotels situated in Kandy district. In those hotels application of the CRM is at satisfactory level and all of them are trying to achieve overall efficiency in delivering the service while maximizing their returns. Customer satisfaction levels with respect to the CRM are measured by a descriptive analysis with a measurement of a 5 point Likert scale system with relate to ten mentions. It has shown that the customers are almost satisfied with the overall services they received from the hotels. Management of hotels has some positive impact on there CRM initiations. The hoteliers personally believe that they have the necessary competencies for continuing their CRM initiations and prefer to update them self s with CRM improvements.Item An Empirical study on Relationship Between Productivity Techniques and Export Quality Production Level of the Tea Factories (Special Reference to Badulla District)(Uva Wellassa University of Sri Lanka, 2010) Wickramarathna, P.The scarcity of the resources is the major problem in the present world and all the nations tried getting the maximum use of the existing resources. Therefore use several strategies to increase the productivity of the existing resources to get the competitive advantage. This research conducted using a sample of five tea factories who used 5S to identify how the productivity techniques or the 5S concept affect to increase the export quality production level of the small holding Tea factories in Badulla District . Within last years The Sri Lankan tea sector faced some problems most of the economist emphasis the need of increasing of the productivity and though the factories implement the productivity techniques there were no any ex-post evaluation of the effect of the 5S the increase the quality production level of the tea factories. Though Badulla District significantly contributes to the Sri Lankan tea production, it is one of the poorest Districts. So this study was based on the Small holding tea factories in the Badulla and to analysis the effect of the 5S used the model derived from the Cobb Douglas production function.Item Impact of Marketing strategies on Customer satisfaction; Case on Commercial Banks in Uva Province(Uva Wellassa University of Sri Lanka, 2010) Rathnayake, R.M.B.N.B.The commercial banking sector in Sri Lanka has been developed dramatically in most recent years. At the present context banking service providers have to be faced head to head competition to survive in the market. Thus to face the competition in the market place the service providers always try to add value to the customers. In the context of adding value they tend to be implemented variety of marketing strategies in order to position the place in the customer's mind. In that context the objective of this research is to identify the relationship between the marketing strategies and customer satisfaction and identify the existing situation of marketing strategies on customer satisfaction. The population of the whole research was total saving account holders of commercial banks in Uva province. Samples of 180 savings account holders were selected with 12 each from 15 bank branches from Badulla and Monaragala district. Key finding of research show that averagely saving account holders were almost agreed with the existing situation of marketing strategy and customer satisfaction. The finding indicates that there is strong positive relationship between marketing strategy and customer satisfaction. Furthermore it can be recognized that people as most effective type of marketing strategy among the product, price, place, promotion, process, and physical evidence provided by commercial banks towards customer satisfaction in Uva Province.Item Study of Impact of Compensation Towards the Work Attitudes and Employee Turnover in Apparel industry in Kaluthara District(Uva Wellassa University of Sri Lanka, 2010) Rasangee, P.P.; Gunaratne, Y,M.C.The primary purpose of this research was to identify the impact of compensation system towards the work attitudes and employee turnover of apparel industry in Kaluthara district. This research paper developed and tested a model to examine the effect of compensation system towards the work attitudes and employee turnover in apparel industry in Kaluthara district. This Research presents an analytical discussion and empirical evidence of the compensation system, work attitudes and employee turnover. Theoretical views allow for the complex relationship between compensation system and work attitudes and work attitudes and employee turnover. The results are tested on 12 apparel factories in Kaluthara district; data are collected through primary and secondary sources. Empirical evidence showed that compensation system has direct, strong positive relationship with work attitudes and work attitude have direct negative relationship with employee turnover. Employee turnover is highly depending on work attitudes and work attitudes highly depending on compensation system and on some external factors such as unwillingness of the husband, problems of take care of babies, and due to the marriage transfers to the another villages.Item The Impact of Marketing Strategies on Customer satisfaction in Mobile telecommunication Sector: A Study with Special Reference to Badulla Region(Uva Wellassa University of Sri Lanka, 2010) Priyanthi, H.J.The telecommunication sector in srilanka has been developed rapidly in last couple of years since the deregulation in telecommunication sector in early 1990s.Number of service providers have been increased in advance with in a short period of time. Recently mobile service providers have to be coped with head to head competition to survive in the market. With the expansion of competition the service providers pay special attention to retain their existing customers. Thus to face the competition in the market place the service providers always try to add value to the customers. In the context of adding value they tend to be implemented variety of marketing strategies regard to position the place in the customer's mind. Hence they should highly concentrate on well designing the marketing strategies because they consider customers are the king of their business and the customer satisfaction is a fundamental marketing construct. In this context the objective of this research is to identify the relationship between the marketing strategies and customer satisfaction and the existing strategies which they are practicing. A questionnaire survey was carried out among two hundred users and the direct interview with every branch managers for the purpose of identifying the existing strategies among mobile telecommunication sector revealed that the most important factor determining the marketing strategies was service process to satisfy the customers. The output through the analysis indicated the strong positive relationship between the marketing strategies and customer satisfaction.Item Study on Impact of Service Quality of Financing Modes on Preferences of Small Industrialists(With Special Reference to Kurunegala District)(Uva Wellassa University of Sri Lanka, 2010) Senadeera, P.A.M.In Sri Lanka, as well as in other developing countries, small industries are considered important because they play a vital role in developing the regional economies and thereby in enhancing the living conditions of the people in the region; small industrialists in Sri Lanka are believed to use both formal and informal financing facilities in meeting their financing needs. With a sample of 80 small industrialists selected from 10 divisional secretariats in Kurunegala district, the researcher collects first hand information from them in order to assess the impact of service quality in financing modes on financing preferences of small industrialists. Further, it is supported by an extensive literature survey and a vast amount of information from numerous secondary sources. An analysis of the current situation reveals that the informal financing sector is more popular than the formal financing sector in terms of the factors efficiency, communication, recovery, price, accessibility, procedures and flexibility. However, in terms of courtesy and personal attitudes, the formal financing sector is found to be more popular than the informal financing sector. The most important factor affecting financing preferences of small industrialists in the formal financing sector is communication while the most important factor affecting financing preferences of small industrialists in the informal financing sector is courtesy. When the findings are considered, it is revealed that the relationship between service quality and preference is stronger in the informal financing sector than in the formal financing sector. All in all, it can be concluded that the informal financing sector is more attractive to small industrialists than the formal financing sector.Item Comprehensive Study of Marketing Strategy Applied in Handloon Industry with Special reference to Kalmunai Division(Uva Wellassa University of Sri Lanka, 2010) Fasloon, R.M."Comprehensive study of marketing strategy applied in Handloom industry" by UWIRENM/06/0005, R.M.Fasloon which was studied with the purpose of identifying marketing knowledge and practices of handloom product manufacturer to develop marketing strategic practices to improve handloom industry by recommending possible solution similar to an established organization with special reference to Kalmunai division of Ampara District. The research was designed to analyze marketing mix strategy through univariate analysis. The data were measured by using descriptive analysis and evaluated by five point likert scale method. This research gathered information regarding each marketing mix element strategic practice in making market effectiveness. It was interpreted by tables and graphs with descriptive measures. Manufacturers are practicing quality and designing strategy but branding strategy. Pricing decisions are not in stable position in handloom industry. The placing strategy implementation is being complex to make effective market. There is a poor level of promotion strategy used to communicate product to market. Further this research was studied the operation regarding Department of Industries Development in promoting handloom industry in Kalmunai. There were several influences make manufacturers into critical situation to apply marketing strategies to create an effective market in this industry. Further more this research concluded why this industry should be protected, how can be strategically improved were also discussed.Item The Comparative study of Reward System with Job Satisfaction in Government Banks and Private Banks in Vauniya District(Uva Wellassa University of Sri Lanka, 2010) Kandasamy, K.The Vavuniya District population was increased by double within one year after the internal conflict situation. According to the increasing population the banking sectors are booming rapidly. Especially the mobile banking activities, banking operation. deposit rates and loan facilities are increased very fast. So the employee's work load also increased day by day. The government banks and private banks are giving special rewards to satisfy their employees to get maximum productivity. But both banks are giving different types of rewards to satisfy their employees. All reward systems are based on the assumptions of attracting, retaining and motivating people. Research sample selected from 32 bank assistants in private banks and 28 bank assistants in government banks. The data was collected in primary and secondary method. The primary data was collected by questionnaire with direct interview. The Data were analyzed through MINITAB software to find out e relationship between reward systems with job satisfaction by regression analysis and correlation analysis. According to that, the strong positive relationship traced between reward systems and employee job satisfaction in government banks and private banks. The private banks employees job satisfaction is higher than government bank employees. So the private banks give more rewards to satisfy their employees to get the customer loyalty. Let us win the hearts of the employees as well as customers by best rewarding system.Item Impact of Quality of Work Life on Organizational commitment of employees in apparel industry at Galle District(Uva Wellassa University of Sri Lanka, 2010) Sampath, G.K.A.D.; Sutha, J.Quality of work life is a significant thing of the workers in every organization in the world because that would be impacted to the personal life of them and organization performance as well. Therefore the researcher has been gone to find the Impact of quality of work life and organizational commitment of employee in apparel industry at Galle district.. The purpose of this research was to investigate the relationship between quality of work life and organizational commitment and to identify the relative contribution of quality of work life toward organizational commitment of employees. The 100 employee those who are working in apparel industry at Galle district were selected as a sample by use stratified random sample technique. The data were collected and measured by five point likert scale method further more collected data were analyzed by using descriptive statistic and inferential statistic overall output of quality of work life as positively impact to the organizational commitment, but job satisfaction, company policy wage policy and union of quality of work life were not contributed to the organizational commitment of the employee in apparel industry.Item Analyzing the Effectiveness of Training and development Practices on Labor Productivity with Special Reference to Tire Manufacturing Industry in Sri Lanka(Uva Wellassa University of Sri Lanka, 2010) Wijeweera, W.K.T.K.Tire manufacturing industry was more labor incentive in nature. Thus, Human resources are the most vital resource and the improving labors knowledge, skills and the attitudes are the most significant part of tire industry. In present, most training and development practices are implemented but most companies faced difficulty to get their expected outcome through implementing training and development practices. Therefore, the purpose of this research is to identify the impact of effectiveness of the, training and development practices to the labor productivity in tire manufacturing industry in Sri Lanka. Data were collected from 100 randomly selected factory level workers in 6 selected tire manufacturing companies in Sri Lanka. Tire manufacturing companies were Loadstar (pvt) Ltd, Samson rubber industries (pvt) Ltd, Elastomeric engineering co Ltd, MAM rubber industries (Pvt) Ltd and Global rubber industries (Pvt) Ltd. The research data collection is mainly based on the primary and secondary data. Main objective is this study is to identify the impact of effective training and development practices to Labor productivity. To achieved this objectives knowledge acquisition, trainee's satisfaction, training infrastructure, training schedule, training motivation, intensity of labor effort and Quality of labor effort has used as variable of this research.Item Effectiveness of promotions: Identify The most Effective Promotional Method for Recently Introduced Savings Accounts with special reference to Commercial banks Operated in Badulla(Uva Wellassa University of Sri Lanka, 2010) Abeygunawardene, S.H.D.K.; Fernando, P.I.N.Modern business environment is highly dynamic and competitive. Service sector organizations are considered as one of the highly competitive sector within the economy. To face this competition, commercial banks introduce savings accounts ceaselessly. Even though banks spend millions on promotional/advertising activities to attract customers, the number of customers attracted to savings accounts is in comparatively lower level. This research focused on identifying the most effective promotional method for recently introduced savings accounts in commercial banks which operated in their branches in Badulla urban area. Hundred respondents from seven commercial banks were taken as sample and using stratified sampling method. Here the effectiveness of eight promotional methods using by banks to attract customers is considered.Item Study on Impact of Ecotourism Practices on Customer Attractiveness in Tourism; with Special Reference to Nuwara-Eliya District(Uva Wellassa University of Sri Lanka, 2010) Silva, W.H.T.C.; Ranasingha, J.P.R.C.This research study on the impact of ecotourism practices on customer attractiveness in tourism; with special reference to Nuwara Eliya district is focusing on Sri Lankan ecotourism perspective in Nuwara Eliya district and identify impact of ecotourism practices, to cater on tourists and influence to tourist attractiveness. It focuses to emphasis naturally and culturally rich resources of country's potentiality to go beyond mass tourism and cater on niche tourism concept such as ecotourism. Study sample include both tourists and hotels within Nuwara Eliya district special focus given for ecotourism practitioners. Use survey research method while use of both primary and secondary data sources, to draw conclusions about ecotourism practitioners and customer attractiveness through direct value creation function of profits and volumes. Highly practicing eco activities within the Nuwara Eliya district are Nature trials, tea tourism, bird watching, cycling and mountain biking. Usage of eco-friendly products, organic farming, and recycling and energy conservation can be seen among the ecotourism practitioners. Hotels were able to build environmental awareness through sponsorships and promotions.Item Study of Impact of Performance Appraisal Systems Towards Employee Performance and Organizational Effectiveness of ‘Rural Banking Sector’ in Uva Province(Uva Wellassa University of Sri Lanka, 2010) Sutha, J.; Padmasiri, H.G.M.As there is a significant importance of the rural banking sector to the SriLankan economy, this research was conducted with the objectives to understand the existing performance appraisal systems and to identify the impact of performance appraisal systems towards employees performance and the organizational effectiveness whereas to analyze the relative contribution of performance appraisal systems towards employees performance and organizational effectiveness in rural banks in Uva province. Accordingly questionnaire and direct interviewing method were employed to collect the primary data from 120 employees of the rural banking in the Uva Province. Further internal reports of the employee reward systems and publications of selected banks were used as secondary data collection method. The findings showed that there is positive impact between the performance appraisal systems and the employee performance as well as with the employee performance and the organizational effectiveness. The rural banking sector mostly follows the confidential report methods while ignoring other highly acceptable appraisal methods.Item Analysis of Output Fluctuations and Reasons, Caused by the Change of Labour Shift in the Sri Lankan Apparel Industry(With Reference to Board of Investment Registered Garments)(Uva Wellassa University of Sri Lanka, 2010) Kshemendra, M.M.P.; Siyabalapitiya, J.The purpose of this research was to identify whether the output of the shift based apparel industries vary with the change of labour shifts and identify and analyze the reasons that affect on output of the each labour shifts. This research paper developed a model to examine the effect of factors that are related to the output variances of Board of Investment registered garment industries. The designed model was tested by selecting five shift based apparel-manufacturing firms from five export-processing zones. The data are collected primary and secondary sources, primary data gathered from sewing machine operators by using quaternaries. The output of the day shift having strong positive relationship with machine operator's efficiency other than the other factors but night shift output will be depend on few more factors than the sewing machine operators efficiency.Item A Study of Impact of a Cause Related Marketing Attributes on Customers Purchase Intention of Baby Care Products in Sri Lanka(Uva Wellassa University of Sri Lanka, 2010) Udayanga, H.J.; Sutha, J.Cause Related Marketing has become a Strategic marketing tool nowadays specially in the highly competitive industries. Baby care products industries one of the competitive industries in Sri Lanka. The purpose of this research to investigate the relationship between consumer purchase intention of baby care products and cause related marketing activities and examine the relative Contribution of attribute in cause related marketing on purchase intention of baby care products in Sri Lanka this was Analyzed by using descriptive and inferential Statistics. 300 Customers are selected as a Sample by using multistage cluster sampling techniques and distribute questionnaires impersonally. Empirical evidence Showed that cause related marketing have positive relationship with consumer purchase intention. In this research only four cause related Attributes are Significantly contributes to purchase intention. Finally cause related marketing enhancement Strategies were discussed. Overall, this research should help firms determine the best factors of cause related marketing attribute.
