Abstract
Hair care oil is one of the most well recognized hair treatments. Caffeine has recently been shown to be a hair growth stimulator and is able to counteract the suppressive effects on hair growth. Caffeine helps to improve skin function and is easily absorbable through scalp skin. Caffeine is found naturally in tea. Tea fluff is considered as a waste product of secondary manufacturing of tea. As it consists with beneficial chemical components as same as the made tea it can be used for develop natural hair care oil. The main objective of the presented study is to develop a natural hair oil using crude tea extract of black tea fluff by considering the caffeine incorporation level which promotes the female hair growth. Two sensory evaluation sessions were done to evaluate several sensory attributes using 30 untrained panelists. Results were analyzed using the MINITAB statistical analysis package according to the Friedman test at 5% significance level. Through the first sensory evaluation best base oil was selected from different treatment combinations of base oil samples. For the second sensory evaluation session different combinations of crude tea extract were incorporated to the hair oil and all treatments were subjected to the sensory evaluation to select the best sample. Crude tea extract incorporating level was selected by considering caffeine content of the crude tea extract. Caffeine in concentration of 0.0001%, 0.0003%, 0.0005%, 0.0007%, 0.0009% hair oil samples were prepared. After the sensory evaluation considering the results best sample was selected. The best sample was evaluated through aerobic plate count test and stability test. The acid value and peroxide value were determined according to the SLSI standards. Caffeine incorporated with 0.0003% of sample was identified as the best treatment. The results presented in this study showed good physical, chemical and microbiological properties throughout the experimental period. This experiment might effective to produce natural, more efficient, safe, add value to waste and cost effective hair care product. Key words: Hair care oil, Caffeine, Tea fluff
