dc.description.abstractTea small holders in Sri Lanka operates under many problems, such as labor shortage, high cost of production, uncertain weather and market condition and low profit margins. Those conditions lead to create variation of income among tea smallholders. Therefore, they tend to diversity their income seeking and holding multiple jobs. However, in depth analysis of what factors affect the decision to engage in multiple jobs is lacking in Sri Lanka. Therefore, this study attempt to find the determinants of multiple job holdings of tea small holders in Nivithigala Divisional Secretarial Division of Sri Lanka. Data for the study were gathered from 200 tea small holders using a structured questionnaire. The data were analyzed using bivariate probit model. The results suggest that the level of satisfaction, intercropping, number of above 18 years old female and distance to major city are the major determinants of multiple job holdings of household head. For spouse, level of satisfaction, household size, number of above 18 years old male and distance to major city are the only influencing factor.
