Item Comprehensive Study of Marketing Strategy Applied in Handloom Industry with Special Reference to Kalmunai District(Uva Wellassa University of Sri Lanka, 2010) Fasloon, R.M.; Sutha, R.J.Marketing strategies have become decisive tools in any industry in their way towards business excellence. Handloom industry is an industry with greater development potentials. The study was designed to identify marketing knowledge and practices of handloom product manufacturer to develop marketing strategic and to giving suggestions to improve handloom industry by recommending possible solution. This study consist 54 sample selected by using stratified random sampling technique. Data were collected by using questionnaire and analyzed by using univariate analysis. Manufacturers apply quality and designing strategies but not practicing branding strategy. Pricing decisions are not in stable position in handloom industry. The placing strategy implementation is being complex to make effective market. There is a poor level of promotion strategy used to communicate product to market. Further this research was studied the operation regarding Department of Industries Development in promoting handloom industry in Kalmunai. There were several influences force manufacturers into critical situation to apply marketing strategies to create an effective market in this industry. Furthermore this research concluded why this industry should be protected, how can be strategically improved at this movement. When people are going to take this challenge, security is a one of major concerns. Security is directly link with the insurance. Any person who is willing to have a risk, definitely that person should have a relationship with insurance to secure. Not as earlier, now there is a high demand for insurance policies in present scenario. With that situation insurance industry is highly competitive & innovative while trying to introduce various new insurance plans cost effectively in order to maximize the market share. That's why so many miscellaneous insurance policies are available in the market except traditional general insurance policies, though it has reported lesser customer attraction. Communication, transportation and insurance are business support services. Hence, insurance is also one of the major business support services that provide social benefits. When considering Insurance as an industry, it has become a major player in business world. According to the central bank report 2010, Banking, Insurance and real estate contribute 7.5% to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP). As per the experience, researcher had collected some information related especially to fire and miscellaneous policies in insurance companies and recognized that the portion of miscellaneous insurance policies are comparably low when considering the other insurances. Therefore, through this study, the researcher tried to identify the determinants of customer attraction in miscellaneous insurance policies in Sri Lanka.Item Empirical Study of Employee Rewards System and Its impact on Behavioral Outcomes of Empoloyees with Special Reference to Private Commercial Banks in Badulla Urban Area(Uva Wellassa University of Sri Lanka, 2010) Fasana, S.F.; Sutha, R.J.Employees play a fundamental role in establishing and sustaining a firm's success. They need considerable attention from the organization's management. Reward system is a big tool for organization to motivate employees. In this context, this study try to identify the relationship exists between the reward system and behavioral outcomes of employees in terms of employee performance and job commitment. The population used for this study consisted of six banks from Badulla urban area. Using stratified random sampling technique, 63 employees were selected. Both descriptive and inferential statistical techniques were used. With respect to the inferential techniques, Pearson's product movement correlation, regression analysis, analysis of variance were done by using Minitab and SPSS statistical software packages to indicate relationships and differences in the reward and behavioral outcome of employees. Ultimate results conclude that there is a strong positive relationship between rewards and behavioral outcomes. Reward system was measured in terms of intrinsic and extrinsic rewards. Intrinsic reward is highly correlated with employees' behavior than extrinsic reward. The regression analysis between rewards and behavioral outcomes results the adjusted Co efficient of determination (R2) as 0.853 and model is explained 85.3% variation in behavioral outcomes. It generates jobs, incomes and foreign exchange. Presently, income earned per year from the export of ornamental fish amounts to Rs.920 million. However, major challenges that faced by this industry are packing technology and direct flights facilities from Sri Lanka to the final market destination etc. Sri Lankan ornamental fish industry is ranked tenth in the world as an ornamental fish supplier and accounts for 2.7 in the global ornamental fish mnket. According to the current context, ornamental fish export industry is undergoing an inefficient market condition. Therefore, this research focused to identify the existing practices of marketing strategies in Sri Lankan Ornamental fish exports, to determine the strength of relationship between marketing strategies and export performance and contribution of selected marketing strategies on export performance of the Sri Lankan Ornamental fish exporters.Item Impact of Performance Appraisal Systems on Employee Performance and Organizational Effectiveness: The Case from Rural Banking Sector in Uva Province(Uva Wellassa University of Sri Lanka, 2010) Padmasiri, H.G.M.; Sutha, R.J.As there is a significant importance of the rural banking sector to the Sri Lankan economy, this study was conducted with the objectives of understanding the existing performance appraisal systems and identifying the impact of performance appraisal systems on employee performance and the organizational effectiveness. Further, the study would analyze the relative contribution of performance appraisal systems to employee performance and organizational effectiveness in rural banks in Uva province. Data were collected through a structured questionnaire and using direct interviewing method from a sample consisting 120 employees who were selected using stratified sampling technique from the selected rural banks in Uva Province. Further, internal reports of the employee reward systems and publications of selected banks were used as secondary data. Both descriptive statistics and inferential statistics were used to analyze data. The findings showed that there is a moderate level of positive relationship between the performance appraisal systems and the employee performance while there is a strong positive relationship with the employee performance and the organizational effectiveness according to the "r" value consideration. The rural banking sector mostly follows the confidential report methods while ignoring other highly acceptable appraisal methods. Key words: Human Resource Development, Performance Appraisal Systems, Employee performanceItem A Study of Application of Marketing Strategy and Entrepreneurial Quality of Honey Collectors at War Affected Areas in Batticaloa District(Uva Wellassa University of Sri Lanka, 2010) Sutha, R.J.Main livelihoods of communities in war affected Batticaloa district are fishing, farming, livestock, poultry farming, honey collection, bush meat, etc. Honey collection in Batticaloa district's war affected areas is considered as a seasonal product. Therefore people who involve in the honey collection, also do bush meat, hunting and other collection of forest wood as their livelihood. Honey collectors at the war affected areas face difficulties in marketing their product. Even though they use several marketing strategies their attitude is always towards short-term objective fulfillment. The objectives of the research are to identify the existing situation of application of marketing strategies and entrepreneurial quality, and to identify possible recommendation for the improvement. Out of 6 war affected divisions, Vaharai division was selected by using convenient sampling technique. Data were collected through questionnaire from 50 households in selected division, and this was measured by five point likert scales. Application of marketing strategies (product, place, price, and promotion) and entrepreneurial quality of honey collector's data were summarized using descriptive statistics, graphs and tables. Through the findings the researcher realized that, honey collectors apply seasonality and equip cost of product in the product strategy, but branding, product development and value addition of the product are in almost disagree level that is 3.5Item Study of Impact of Information Technology on the Effectiveness of Customer Relationship Management Systems in E-Business Perspective in Commercial Banks in Sri Lanka(Uva Wellassa University of Sri Lanka, 2010) Punchihewa, G.P.H.A.J.; Sutha, R.J.The primary purpose of this research was to identify the impact of information technology on the effectiveness of customer relationship management (CRM) systems from the e-business perspective in commercial banks in Sri Lanka. The study developed and tested a model to examine the impact of information technology on the effectiveness of CRM systems in commercial banks in Sri Lanka. The study presents an analytical discussion and empirical evidence of the relationship information technology investment and effectiveness of CRM systems. Data were collected from primary and secondary sources and the sample comprising 8 commercial banks was selected based on criteria of "indigenous or Sri Lankan, then employees were selected by random selection of IT and non-IT department employees. Empirical evidence showed that Information System has a strong positive relationship with effectiveness of CRM systems. Effectiveness of CRM systems is highly depending on information systems and on some external factors such as, political pressures, unqualified sponsorship of top management, lack of financial programs to promote CRM and organizational resistant to change and global operations. Presently every organization utilizes the IT based treatment in their common business practices. Network management, application development, data management, maintaining infrastructures and providing hardware are the services that are involved in booming the IT scenario. Furthermore, the IT consultation and the IT solutions for the organization are the treatments which are offered by IT services providers. When the IT decisions are implemented by the organization, they consider the cost of implementation of IT infrastructures. It may relatively be a significant investment that cannot be borne by the organization within their cost structure. In the Sri Lankan context, the IT involvement in the business process has now been increased with a rapid enhancement of Information Technology. Global consulting giant, A.T.
