Item Augmented Reality-Based Approach to Improve Learnability of Sri Lankan History(Uva Wellassa University of Sri Lanka, 2020) Muthuhewa, A.M.C.D.; Fernando, W.P.V.R.; Senanayake, S.H.D.; Ekanayake, E.M.U.W.J.B.; Ellepola, C.S.D.Augmented Reality (AR) being one of the most trending technologies in the world has offered many possibilities to improve existing traditional approaches in day to day tasks. In Sri Lanka, the existing model of education is mostly based on a passive learning system. But as the technology is growing, all the education systems are moving towards digital. The low-cost tablet PCs would replace textbooks soon. In Sri Lanka, there are some schools where the tablet PCs are already using as a learning element. However, there is not enough learning material to be used with these high-end devices and the curriculum of the local education is not optimized to take full advantage out of these devices. This study is focused on how AR-related applications can be used to improve the learnability of students, allow students to learn in an active learning environment in history, and archeological education using AR and evaluate the feasibility of implementing an active learning environment. In this study, the evaluation has been done using two main areas in archeological history education in Sri Lanka. Which are archeological places and arts and crafts that have an archeological value? The evaluation has been done using a mobile AR application-HistoriaAR. The researchers select a group of students to study a given lesson that covers the history and archeological aspects using textbooks and AR-based mobile application in two instances. After that, students were evaluated with a paper-based questionnaire and an in-build evaluation component in the mobile AR application, respectively. According to the results, the mean score of performance (7.13) using textbooks has been improved to mean score of (8.10) using AR related to archeological places. And mean score of performance (6.92) using textbooks has been improved to mean score of (7.63) using AR for to arts and crafts section. At the end of the study, results have proven that the performance of the learning of students can be improved using AR. M. A. I. S.; Ranasinghe, R. A. K. H.; Ratnayake, A.M.B; Ellepola, C.S.D.Apparel sector, a fast-growing industry uses several Lean manufacturing concepts. Kanban, is considered as a popular method which is used to reduce unnecessary costs and wastage of the production process. It is an efficient method of managing supply chain process in apparels. Most of the factories do not utilize the technology and advancement in technology to the fullest potential in material handling although many factories follow manual Kanban and Lean manufacturing concepts. This research was conducted with the intention of designing and developing an e- kanban system. As a results of obtained from a statistical survey, background study and interviews, 87.5% expected to modify the existing system. Accordingly, Kanban system was converted into Electronic kanban system (E-kanban) using Radio-Frequency Identification (RFID) technology. Arduino mega, RFID module and RFID tags were used to design the system. To input data to the system, the C# interface was used. Then the number of Kanban to write data to the RFID tags were automatically calculated. RFID tags use filtering to prevent repetition. When the material is moving with the RFID tags in the line, the overall progress in the production process could be easily viewed. The research considers about the economic aspects as it proposes material saving through reducing paperwork and other printing materials. As this system pre-defines all the optimum things to be done, it is expected to reduce the workload and the stress levels of the employees. E-kanban system is strongly recommended in terms of its environmental friendliness. Finally, the concept was tested for user acceptance by conducting a simple survey and interviews. Each feature of the model was accepted by 86.7% of the respondents. Thus, it can be concluded that the system can be used for predictive analysis on decision making with manual and traditional lean concepts.Item Location Based Real Time Advertising System(Uva Wellassa University of Sri Lanka, 2016) De Mel, W. U. R.; Ellepola, C.S.D.Advertising is a single component of the marketing process. It is a part that involves getting the word out regarding the business, product, or the services the companies are offering. Advertising and marketing are key elements in a company's success. One cannot be used without the other. Advertising works based on statistics. So definitely there are some people who are not been reached through most advertisements. Providing advertisements to the relevant people who actually needed them is more productive. With the rapid growth of smartphone users in Sri Lanka, an opportunity is there to create a link between customers and businesses, making advertising more effective. Currently mobile advertising has become one of the fastest-growing advertising formats. However, the problem engaged with all of the formats including online advertising is that they are not actually giving priority for the customer's perspectives. Therefore, a system that is user friendly and allows the customers to search products according to their wish instead of viewing advertisements is more productive. This research is carried out to develop a framework between customers and companies who use Android OS based smart phones. Businesses can post advertisements tagged to specific geo locations and the customers can subscribe to the advertisements. The primary purpose of this research is to increase the productivity of advertising by giving real time location based experience to customers and also to companies. The customers can find the locations of a specific product in a short period of time without visiting each and every shop, and companies can share the advertisements with customers who actually need it in a cost effective way. Hospitality and tourism industry is considered as an information intensive sector. Due to the advancements in the field of IT, the hospitality and tourism industry has been able to derive the benefits of e-commerce. Even though there is a rapid development in new technologies and trends, developing countries like Sri Lanka are still facing an attitudinal barriers in accepting of e-commerce. This research was carried out with the objective of finding the factors that affect the e-commerce adoption of small and medium enterprises related to hospitality and tourism industry in Sri Lanka. A sample selected from small and medium scaled hotels and guest houses registered under the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority. Questionnaire and interview methods were used for the purpose of gathering data. The data were analysed using statistical tools and the received information was further processed to derive the main factors affecting the e-commerce adoption. The results of this research show that organizational readiness, attitudes and awareness of the enterprises make a strong impact on e-commerce adoption in Sri Lanka. Financial and technological resources and employee interest were the most influential factors identified under organizational readiness, while government rules and regulations and competitive pressure were the main factors that were recognized under external environmental factors. The knowledge regarding the advantages of using e-commerce was the crucial factor identified under awareness of the enterprise. After carefully analyzing these factors and reviewing related literature, a theoretical framework was developed to depict these main factors which have an impact on e-commerce adoption of small and medium enterprises in hospitality and tourism industry in Sri Lanka. This research recommends small and medium enterprises in the field of hospitality and tourism industry to pay attention to the above factors when adopting e-commerce in their respective enterprises.Item Systematic Approach to Maintain Civil Information for Grama Niladharis' In Sri Lanka(Uva Wellassa University of Sri Lanka, 2016) Chathurani, D.M.N.; Ellepola, C.S.D.Accurate statistics is an essential asset for developing countries because statistics are the guidelines in implementing development programs. When it comes to the Sri Lankan context statistics are maintained by the Department of Census and Statistics (DCS) which is the central government agency responsible for undertaking census and statistics. However, they are unable to provide accurate and reliable data as the census are carried out every 10 years in Sri Lanka. Apart from Department of Census and Statistics (DCS) Grama Niladhari Division is one of the major administrative units in the hierarchy of Sri Lankan Public Administration which undertakes census and statistics in Sri Lanka. The importance of the duty performed by Grama Niladhari in Sri Lankan statistics process is high. However with the existing system they are unable to maintain and provide statistics in a proper manner. Therefore, the present work aims to develop a reliable and more efficient Grama Niladhari management system with the use of highly developing technologies. A main purpose of computerization is to improve accuracy of civil registration data and thereby make vital statistics data more accurate, complete and timely.
