In this research it is analyzed how tourism industry contributes positively for the three sustainable pillars such as economic, environment and social aspects for upgrading the living conditions of the population around the Gregory Lake. According to Peron (2004) and Abubakar (2001) the existence and potential benefits of such local tourists. These findings are whether the applicable to the scenario at Gregory Lake, Nuwara Eliya will find out from this research. The research objectives are, to identify existing living conditions of the people in Nuwara Eliya who depend on tourism activities based on Gregory Lake, to investigate the positive impact of tourism activities on their living conditions and to find out new tourism activities that could be introduced to further improve their living conditions. Five Grama Niladhari Administration Divisions adjacent to Gregory Lake were selected as the population and the sample was selected covering fifteen community people, fifteen Hoteliers and twenty Vendors. Interview method and Narrative analysis were used to achieve the objects of the research. The contribution of the people for the tourism activities and the benefits were analyzed under three sustainable pillars. Tourism industry is contributed for the improvement of language skills and persuasion if value of the education. Tourism industry has motivated people to integrate with the concept of environment. Several new activities for enhancing the attraction of tourists and for increase the flow of benefits were introduced. Bumper boats, cable car projects, Children Park and shopping complexes are best suited methods to improve the tourism activities.
