Abstract
Characterization of fourteen bean accessions have been done to identify their characters and to differentiate them to use in bean breeding programs. Qualitative and quantitative characters of twelve accessions were evaluated with check varieties KWG and Lanka Butter. Data were collected based on selected parameters and analyzed. Wide variations in both qualitative and quantitative characters were observed among accessions. Number of seeds in a pod, Marketable yield, pod beak length, terminal leaflet length and brilliance of the seeds of all accessions were same. Accessions were categorized in to four major categories according to the similarities of characters. Sitti kalu and TB are highly different from others. They belong to separate two categories. Accession KWG and AC#01398 belongs to one category. All others included in a separate category. Accession TB and KAR gave higher yield than Lanka butter and KWG. Accession TB takes short time for mature comparison to other accessions. AC#01398 also has more similar characters to KWG. Accessions TB, KAR and KWG have good potential to recommend after testing at other locations.
