Abstract
Swami Vivekananda has rightly said, “There is no chance for the welfare of the world unless the condition of women is improved, it is not possible for a bird to fly on only one wing.” Therefore, the inclusion of women empowerment is one of the prime goals. Thus, in order to achieve the status of a developed country, India needs to transform its colossal women force into an effective human resource and this is possible only through the empowerment of women through mass media education. This paper discusses the importance on mass media education for Women with disabilities. The major objective of the study is to find out the challenges & issues of women with disabilities. In the present study a sample of 100 women with disabilities in Karaikudi district, Tamil Nadu is taken by adopting random sampling technique. The tool for the data collection was Challenges and issues of women with disabilities (CIWWD) were constructed by the investigator. The findings of the research study reveals that 53% of the women felt Education as the most important Challenges followed by Poverty, Employment, Health & Safety, Professional inequality, Morality & inequality, Participation and access to Decision making & Household inequality. Some of the issues of the women with disabilities identified are lack of education, Gender discrimination, Financial Constraints, Family Responsibility, Social Status, Social representation, Media projection, Sexual harassment, Domestic Violence etc. Mass media are used as channels of mass communication. Mass Media education should be imparted to women with disabilities for national development.
