Abstract
Cement is a major requirement of the construction field today. Before cement comes to the market as a product, undergoes several production steps and utilizes various types of raw materials as its constituents. They include Clinker, Gypsum and Mineral component (MIC) mainly. The mineral component consists of Limestone and Dolamite. MIC added to the clinker in different ratios to obtain the final products according to the customer requirements. Clinker is an expensive product which is necessary for cement industry. Clinker has similar chemical composition as fly ash (a waste product of coal-fired power stations) but much reactive itself. Most of the cement factories in other countries use fly ash to replace a proportion of clinker and able to produce more durable cements. As Holcim (Lanka) Ltd, we utilize 100% local raw materials in collaboration with Norochcholai coal power plant has decided to produce our own Blended Hydraulic Cement (Pozzalana Cement) which contain fly ash proportions for the place of clinker. This will provide financial as well as environmental benefits not only to the industry but also to the country.
