Sri Lanka is an island in the Indian Ocean southeast of the Indian sub-continent. Shrimp aquaculture in Sri Lanka commenced in early 1980s. The leading species in aquaculture is Penaeus monodon. In Sri Lanka currently, there is a complete dependence on the capture of brood shrimps from the wild (Shrimp fishery) and 75% of the brood shrimps were provided from Mullaittivu, Hendala, Negombo, Beruwala, Chilaw and Pottuvil for the industry. The seed production of the shrimp aquaculture industry is mainly depends on the quality and disease free conditions of the brood shrimps. Present study was focused to identify the best area to collect high quality shrimp brooders for the hatchery production and to check whether there is any significant relationship between the qualities of post larvae produced using with brood shrimps collected from Chilaw, Negambo and Handala areas. The results indicated that there is a weak relationship between the qualities of brood shrimps collected from three different areas and also it shows weak relationship between the qualities of post larvae with the collecting area of the brood shrimps.en_US
