dc.description.abstractThis study was designed to investigate the effects of labour migration on the children left behind. A household survey was conducted through tea estate households in Badulla district on 2015. Two hundred and five households from six tea estates were randomly selected as the sample and data was collected using a structured questionnaire. The collected primary data was analyzed using STATA software and a model was developed to measure the variables which are affecting on the school attendance of the children in the households and a comparative analysis was done to compare the characteristics of the children in migrant families and non-migrant families. According to the analysis migration, age of the father, education levels and the occupation of the parents, alcohol usage of the father and some expenditures are having a significant effect on the children's education. The findings of this study show that in the Sri Lankan context the effect of migration on children's education is positive and statistically significant.
