(Uva Wellassa University of Sri Lanka, 2012) Thilakarathne, N.
The present investigation an attempt has been developed SLF from Sargassum sp. of brown algae. There have always been attempts to add value to the seaweed resource in Sri Lanka utilizing scientific and technological knowledge. In continuatiort to the same efforts, an attempt was made to demonstrate the growth and yield enhancing properties in the extracts of Sargassum sp. processed according to physical arid fermentation method used on Capsicum annuum as commercial plant and Cryptocoryne parva as the aquatic plant. Increasing of height, increasing of leaves, developing number of buds, increasing number of flowers, increasing number of pods and improving length of pod were observed of Capsicum annuum and number of shoots is for the C.parva used for statistical analysis to determine the effectiveness of SLF. Statistical analysis of data revealed that there is a significant difference (P<0.05) between control and the treatments for increasing number of flowers, increasing number of pods and improving length of pod. The SLF was effectiveness of the Sargassum sp. is effective in enhancing the yield and growth of commercial plants within short time period compared to existing commercial products.
