Item Advanced Failover and Failback Management in Server System(Uva Wellassa University of Sri Lanka, 2010) Sabethan, V.; Kumarapathirana, K.P.S.D.Failover is the capability to automatically switch over to an extra application server which is in standby mode, upon the failure or abnormal termination of the original ipplication server. This happens without human interference and generally without giving the warning. Failback involves the process of restoring a system in a state of failover back to its original state. When a failure occurred in local server, it will be put in suspended state by making its fence lower. At the same time, the recovery member's state will be active to receive connections by making its fence up. It will activate the recovery server. Though there are many failover failback systems, it is very essential to enhance the features of the present system. The proposed system will provide enhanced performance, efficient resource utilization, advanced communication between agents, higher availability and reliability. Shoal-C++, the proposed cluster management framework, provides the foundation for network configuration, and dynamic and autonomous cluster formation. The ultimate goals of the system is to build a library, which consist of GMS client API and GMS SPI. Each machine in the group/network has implemented the signals Join, Joined and ready, Failure suspected, Failure notify, Failure recovery and Planned shutdown in their application to successful identify the nodes and get work done. Grouping of servers (Clustering) gives solution to solve two significant problems: fault tolerance and load balancing. The existing Shoal-C++ is concentrated on the component fail over, but the mirrored component is started from its beginning at failover and fallback implementation. Currently, various types of books and files are used to keep the records such as complaints, crimes, offenders, staff details, etc. Data redundancy, inefficient data retrieving and high resource consuming are identified as major drawbacks of the current system. The proposed system solves these issues by proper management information system with the basic functionalities of the existing system. The main aim of this project is to develop a web based, Management Information System with report generating and data analyzing. The system does not require advanced hardware or software. It consists of an administrator and users. The basic facilities provided by the system are as follows. 1. The system facilitates complaint data entry and retrieves the status in the form of reports 2. Emailing reports to higher authorities 3. User profile maintenance 4. Data mining facility-using data plot graphs Object oriented analysis techniques were used to analyze and model the system while Java and JSP servlet technology were used to develop the system. Hibernate technology was used with MySQL database for database development. The system will add value to the daily functions carried out by the Crime Investigation branch of each police station by enabling the smooth information flow. The system has been currently developed considering one sample branch, by introducing this system to all the police stations of the country. It will be helpful to tack crime spread patterns in the country and effectively facilitate timely action. The System can be further developed through the following paths 1. Prediction of Future Crime Trends 2. Improved System Security with Cryptography Key words: Data redundancy, Report generation, Data analyzing, Object Oriented Analysis techniquesItem Online Human Resource Management System with SMS Based Leave Requesting Facility(Uva Wellassa University of Sri Lanka, 2010) Senaratna, P.C.; Kumarapathirana, K.P.S.D.Computer based solutions play a vital role in the modern society as they are very reliable and fast. Human Resource Management System (HRMS) is one of the major categories of this computer based software solutions which is used by various levels of managerial bodies. Information relating to employees of an organization such aspersonal and employment details, payroll details, leave details etc., are usually components of a Human Resource Management System. SMS based leave requesting facility, online filling in performance appraisals, applying for vacancies through the internet etc, are extended facilities of such a system. This work attempted the implementation of an FIRMS with SMS based leave requesting facility. Java and My SQL server was used in Application and Database Development. System runs on Tomcat web server. Ozeki sever was used for SMS (Short Massage Service) requirement. The developed system can be operated on any Windows based machines. The ultimate goal Of the system is to develop a low cost, smooth running system, which addresses all user requirements. The Short Message Service (SMS) technology has been able to revolutionize the way of mobile usage. This system focuses on the usage of SMS facility with Moodie Course Management System, facilitating the students to get academic information directly to the handheld phone. The SMS technology is a part of the Global System for Mobile Communication (GSM) for exchanging text messages allowing maximum 160 characters per text message. SMS is popular for information retrieval systems for its convenience. SMS based information retrieval systems are the systems that provide the users of the system with the facility to get user owned information in the specific system utilizi4, the above service to user hand held devices. University keeps students' academic and non-academic information. Course Management Systems are used in storing those information. The growing popularity has caused researchers to align the focus towards SMS based researches. The integratibn of the educational systems and the SMS technology is still in its growing stage as a successful approach. This project addresses this issue by providing a solution that integrates SMS technology with the Educational Course Management System that enables the student to get information to the mobile. The student sends a text message to GSM modem connected to the server on which Moodie Course Management System is running, requesting the information he/she needs, with the correct message format. Once a new message is found, it is analyzed for the information requested by student and requested information is sent to the requestor. The system also provides facilities to teacher for entering final semester results of the students and for sending SMS notifications to the all or a selected user through the Moodie Course Management System.
