    Leadership Style and Emotional Intelligence: A Gender Comparision with Special Reference to Banking Sectore

    Emotional intelligence is one of the most important concepts in organizational behavior. Leadership style is the manner and approach of providing direction, implementing plans, and motivating people. It is revealed that leadership style is highly correlated with emotional intelligence. In accordance with past research, findings it is clear that, there were contradictory ideas of the relationship between leadership style and emotional intelligence. There were contradictory ideas of the difference between male and female emotional intelligence. Accordingly objective of this study was to examine the relationship between leadership style and emotional intelligence and further to have a gender comparison. A total of 110 executives in banking sector in Colombo district were used as the sample. Data were analyzed by Chi square test and associate with desertions completed questionnaires. According to the results, self motivation was found to be highly related with for leadership style. More over it was identified that there are differences in male and female self motivation. The results indicated that, there is no relationship between leadership style and emotional intelligence and there is no difference between male and female emotional intelligence.
